Busy Work vs Spiritual Work

1 Corinthians 15:58 - "So then, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless."

Have you ever had one of those days where it feels as though you have been running every moment…but accomplishing very little? It makes me feel unproductive,  even disappointed in myself. The brain becomes foggy, thoughts scatter. I think from time to time, we all have experienced those kinds of days. But, as I read those verses again, a new perspective comes to mind…

’I should stop….take a step back….and focus on something that serves God.’

Something so simple and yet why do I have to be constantly reminded? I work from home now, and let me tell you, I really love being around people, interacting, sharing stories and just…well..........life. So, this has been a new “normal” for me, working alone, with little interaction with anyone. Lord help if anyone calls, I will talk their ear off, even if they called to try and sell ME something! Who knows what the person on the other end of the line may need.

When I worked in an office, among people, I could get up and walk thru the different offices….asking how they’re doing, sharing funny stories, and secretly hoping that I was able to encourage someone thru our conversations. They may have been small things in conversation, but they were all things that were in my service to God.

Some of them had special circumstances and needs, while others simply needed a word of encouragement. Once I finished that time, I realized….that was the most productive part of my day. I always felt better after and I think was more productive for the rest of the day. My focus changed from the “busy” work to the “most important” work.

I loved that, I miss that…and I’m realizing just how much this new life working from home has affected me, emotionally and spiritually.

You may be feeling like you’re spinning around on that hamster’s wheel!

But know, you can stop, get off the wheel, re-focus on what God is whispering to you right now. It doesn’t take much…a quick phone call, an email, a text, or setting up a meet for coffee or lunch. Make an effort and see what wonderful experiences will happen.
