A Heart At Peace: Part 1

Jesus does not guarantee that this life will be without bumps. But He does promise that He will be with us through it all!
Join us in reading an emotional new blog series, by Sandy Hailey.

It was the summer of 1991. Our family just came through a time of fear and uncertainty a few months earlier. I found myself in a painful medical condition that was pointing to the probability of cancer. My doctor said that immediate surgery was needed to go in and see and try and remove any cancerous material. To make a long story much shorter, no cancer was found!

Did God heal me? Or were all the tests indicating cancer wrong?

It doesn’t matter. The purposes of God were fulfilled in that few months of our family battling fear, unbelief, anger...all the emotions one goes through after hearing news like that!

What were His purposes you ask? At times like these, we find ourselves “getting serious” about prayer! I mean, we throw up a token prayer every day asking God to watch over our families, help us not to sin, bless us, heal little Johnny’s scraped knee…then end the prayer with a quick “in Jesus name, Amen”.

But, there are other times, times of panic…urgency…fear that cause us to fall to our knees and cry out “GOD…HELP”!

That is what happened to us during that time. It was a time of “getting serious” about prayer. And boy did we get serious!

By the time that summer of 1991 rolled around, we found out what the few months of intense, emotional, fervent prayer had been preparing us for a higher purpose that God was taking us through. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” Psalm 37:23

Why am I writing this story now, following the holidays? I’m being reminded of the powerful trustworthiness of God. When in times of doubt, disappointments, and delusions; God is faithful and can be trusted above all else, above anyone else. A lesson

learned many times over as we live out our lives.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His mercies endure forever.” Psalm 136:1

A horrible accident while on vacation in the summer of 1991!

Stay tuned for part 2 of “A Heart at Peace”…..next week as we unfold a new chapter to this story.
